On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Marcel Pagnol’s passing, numerous theater companies have decided to pay tribute to the author. Here is the program for a national lineup that is both traditional and modern.
A grand production of this Marcel Pagnol classic, which has filled more than 1000 seats at the Silo in Marseille. Marius features performances by prominent Provençal actors.
Marius tells the story of life: fathers who run their bars with an iron hand, mothers who raise their daughters alone, sons who dream of elsewhere, daughters who dream of love, and widowers who still dream of love… Frédéric Achard brings this Marseilles-flavored fresco to life, offering his actors and the audience a modernity of tone and a back-and-forth of feelings dear to Pagnol: from laughter to emotion.
Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28 & Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2, 2024, 8:00 PM
Théâtre Comoedia – 13 Cours Maréchal Foch, 13400 Aubagne
An exceptionally modern and inspired adaptation by Arthur Cachia with a minimalist staging by Thierry Harcourt. One of the greatest successes of Avignon 2022.
Toine is hunchbacked and suffers from his disability. He is in love with Naïs, the daughter of a violent peasant. Naïs, in turn, is in love with Frédéric, a young man from a bourgeois family.
Summer comes, and the young lovers indulge in pleasures their social condition does not allow…
It’s a world that opens before us, a world of poetry and emotions, and all its characters, with their strong personalities, sweep us into a whirlwind of feelings.

Experience one of Marcel Pagnol’s most famous films while hiking nearly 10 km through the trails of the Domaine Départemental de Pichauris! The “Saltimband” will guide you through the hills of Allauch, and with good spirits and sturdy shoes, you will enjoy the beauty of the place and be surprised by the encounters you make: The beautiful Naïs with her sensual charm, and in her shadow, never far away, the friend Toine, the hunchback whose undying love for the young peasant girl will surely touch you.
The Rostaings, so stiff-necked, whose prodigal son Frédéric may seduce you, as he seduces Naïs. Micoulin, Naïs’s father and the Rostaing’s sharecropper, because you will inevitably pass by his farm: but discreetly, as he is not to be trifled with. You might skirt the sea, who knows? And you will surely sing, for there is nothing better for trekking the paths! Beyond the landscapes, you will travel through words. And when it comes to those of Marcel Pagnol, the journey is inevitably beautiful!
