Conference on the theme of the universality of Marcel Pagnol’s work

During the Gémenos Book Fair held on May 20th and 21st, 2023, Karin Hann, writer and specialist in Marcel Pagnol’s work, presented her book “Marcel Pagnol, un autre regard” (ed. du Rocher), and Nicolas Pagnol, Marcel Pagnol’s grandson, author, biographer, and President of the Marcel Pagnol Foundation, delivered a conference on the theme of the universality of Marcel Pagnol’s work.

Can one be universal and local at the same time? How to define Pagnol’s style? What is the actual place of Provence in Pagnol’s work? How did he succeed in creating such a distinct work that went against the cinematic and literary movements of his time?

The two guests attempted to answer these questions posed by Floryse Grimaud, the program coordinator of the Gémenos Book Fair.
