Summary

Since the departure of Marius, César is more and more angry, and his friends pay the price. When Fanny learns that she is expecting a child from Marius, she is in danger of being disgraced…

Two years after Marius, Pagnol took up his characters in Fanny (1931) where he had left them. Audiences at the Théâtre de Paris enthusiastically found Fanny, César, Panisse, Escartefigue, Monsieur Brun and Honorine.

Orane Demazis and Charpin are there, but not Raimu., angry with the director of the theater, is replaced by Harry Baur.

In 1932, Marc Allégret shot Fanny, and Raimu took over the role Pagnol had written for him. The success of the film Fanny was as great as that of Marius. From the 1930s to the 1960s, several remakes were made. Wallace Beery, Emil Janings and Charles Boyer played César. Maurice Chevalier was, in 1961, a Hollywood Panisse.

“This child, when he was born, weighed four kilos… These are the ones his mother made. Now he’s up to seven… Those extra three kilos are three kilos of love.”
