OTHER REFERENCES TO MARCEL PAGNOL

  • Professor Jean Bernard’s acceptance speech at the Académie Française, in Marcel Pagnol’s chair, was published in full in Le Monde on March 19, 1976.
  • Many obituaries were published in the Paris and provincial press when Marcel Pagnol died in 1974.
  • A number of texts were also published on the occasion of the centenary of Marcel Pagnol’s birth, in 1995.
  • A multidisciplinary symposium was also held in Marseille and Aubagne, from May 18 to 20, 1995, under the auspices of the U.M.R. “Telemme” and the University of Provence, on the theme “Marcel Pagnol and Southernness”.
  • A large 800 m2 exhibition: “Pagnol, un auteur mis en scène” (Pagnol, an author staged), combining video projections (film excerpts, testimonies, interviews) and reconstructed sets was held in 1995, on the occasion of the centenary of Marcel Pagnol’s birth. It was presented in Paris la Défense, Marseille and Monaco from February to October 1995. The same scenography could be used, for the most part, in the future Pagnol museum, planned at Château de La Buzine, in Marseille.
